Music production software

Podium is a modern production host that integrates audio recording, VST plugins and external MIDI and audio gear. An object based project structure allows for advanced media and device management.

Feature highlights: Hierarchic track layout, integrated sound editor, surround sound, spline curve automation, 64-bit mixing, multiprocessing and a stylish and customizable user interface.
800 MHz CPU 512 MB system memory Graphics card with 32 MB memory Minimum display resolution of 1024x600 Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Windows 7 Sound card with ASIO or MME driver (ASIO recommended)
Podium Podium v 3.2.7 Jul 29, 2017 Windows
Updated VST plugin loading system. Previous Podium versions could make the UI unresponsive when loading large sample-based plugins. A progress dialog is now shown when plugins and presets are being loaded. The new system also fixes some issues with NI Kontakt and Reaktor.
Added “Offline bounce buffer size” option to the Preferences dialog. Previous Podium versions used a fixed buffer size of 128 samples. Setting this option to a smaller value can produce smoother automation curves, but some plugins will crash if the buffer size is set too low.
Added “Select All on Track” to the Select menu.
Optimized “Convert to unique cropped copy” when applied to large sound files.
Fix: The effect track properties dialog did not initialize the meter mode combobox.
Fix: Undoing a “Merge” of sequence/sound events could result in empty events.
Zynewave Podium Podium v 3.2.4 Mar 18, 2014 Windows
Added four new toolbar buttons for toggling visibility of navigator, marker, tempo and velocity regions. The buttons are not included in the default editors, but can be added with the toolbar properties dialog.
Added ‘Show draggable title bar’ option to Mixer and Embedded region dialogs.
Removed line height setting from the Event List region dialog.
Podium can create a PodiumDebugLog.txt file for diagnostics of ASIO drivers. Add the line “DebugLog=1? under the “[Settings]” line in Podium.ini to enable creation of the log file.
Fix: Solved an issue with Prodipe ASIO driver initialization.
Zynewave Podium v 3.2.3 Feb 5, 2014 Windows
Moved the help panel from below the inspector to a separate sidebar on the right side of the project window. The sidebar can be shown/hidden by clicking the “Help” tab above the sidebar.
Adjusted the layout of the inspector rack panel.
The preferences “Default button size” setting now also controls the line height of list boxes.
The default font is changed to Segoe UI when running Windows Vista or later.
Reduced contrast in default metal texture background and updated the design of the splash screen.
Added “Sound cache maximum memory usage” setting to preferences. Default is 512 MB. Previously Podium would use up to half the available free memory for sound caching. This new maximum setting can help reserve memory for loading memory intensive plugins.
Fix: The auto-assigned audio input mapping was not assigned properly when loop recording on a composite track.
Fix: Podium x86 running on 64-bit Windows did not properly detect VST folders in Program Files (x86).
Fix: The project browser context menu showed a blank line for the “New Object” sub menu.
audio Podium v 3.2.2 Jan 18, 2014 Windows
Podium licensees with an active upgrade period can download a new bonus plugin zip file from their account page. This includes a licensed full version of the Tone2 Warmverb multi-effect VST plugin (both x86 and x64). Tone2 are kindly offering this as a gift for Zynewave Podium licensees, representing a value of US$65.
Changed the default installation path for the bundled zPlugins to the Steinberg recommended “VST2? subfolder in the Common Files system folder. This makes it easier to use the zPlugins in other hosts. Previously the default installation path was a subfolder of the Podium installation folder. Users that upgrade from a previous Podium version may need to add the VST2 path to the VST scan folders in the Podium preferences.
Updated the ReWire.dll support libraries bundled in the Podium installer to the latest ReWire 2.6.4 version.
The Audio/MIDI dialog shows an error message if a MIDI interface is selected as both a MIDI device and a control surface.
Fix: Check for disconnected USB MIDI interfaces was not done properly on Podium startup. An error dialog will appear on startup if any interfaces have become unavailable.
sound Podium v 3.2.1 Sep 9, 2013 Windows
The Podium Guide PDF file has been removed from the installer and replaced by an updated Podium Guide html document.
Context help is using the installed Podium Guide html document instead of the old online guide on the zynewave.com wiki website. Context help can be opened by clicking Help buttons in dialog windows or by pressing Shift+F1 with the mouse cursor positioned on an element in the Podium UI.
Included a new Podium Release History html document that collects all release notes starting with the first public release in 2004. The document can be opened from the Podium Help menu or the Podium program group in the Windows start menu.
The Podium setup file stores plugin paths separately for 32-bit and 64-bit. This eliminates the need to reconfigure the plugin paths when switching between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Podium.
When Podium tries to detect VST plugin folder locations, it now also looks in “Program Files\Common” and any subfolders named either VstPlugins or VST2.
Improved security when saving project and sound files. A saved file is now flushed to disk before the temporary backup file is deleted. This should prevent cases where a file could become corrupt if the PC power was switched off before the harddisk had flushed its write cache to the physical drive.
Fix: The plugin quarantine list and plugin crash logfile used during plugin scanning were not working correctly due to a Unicode file format mismatch.
production Podium v 3.2.0 Jul 24, 2012 Windows
Note editor: Added "Adjust Velocities..." to the edit menu. The edit dialog contains controls for: Value, strength, offset, randomization and preview. Enabling the "Clipboard" option will fetch the velocity value from the first available note event on the clipboard.

Note editor: Added "Adjust Transposition..." to the edit menu. The edit dialog contains controls for octaves and semitones as well as a preview option.

Note editor: Added "Invert Notes", "Reverse Notes", "Invert Velocities", "Reverse Velocities" to the edit menu.

Velocity region: Alt+Click+Drag over note bars to offset velocities. Offset amount is controlled by dragging up/down. A horizontal offset alignment line is drawn while dragging.

Velocity region: Ctrl+Click+Drag to adjust velocities of selected events. Up/down offsets velocities. Left/right compresses/expands dynamic range centered around clicked velocity value.

Velocity region: Shift+Click to start dragging a marquee selection of note events whose velocities fall within the marquee.

Curve editor: Added "Adjust Points..." to the edit menu. The edit dialog contains controls for: Value, strength, offset, randomization and preview. Selecting the "Clipboard" option will fetch the point value from the first available point event on the clipboard. If the edited curve sequence controls gain or send levels, the values are entered as dB. MIDI parameters use 0-127 value range, and all other paremeters use percentage values.

Arrangement editor: Added "Adjust Sound Events..." to the edit menu. The edit dialog contains controls for: Gain value, gain strength, gain offset, panning, fade-in/out times and curve shape, and clipboard option.

Reorganized the edit menu. Inactive menu commands that were previously hidden are now shown as grayed out, to make the appearance of the edit menu more consistent.

The bus return section (optionally shown docked in the mixer) no longer includes parent group tracks.

Updated the bundled zPlugins to support Unicode preset and parameter names.

# dded "export to sound file" command to the arrangement and sound editor file menus. An export dialog will appear with bit resolution and normalize settings. The arrangement export uses the bounced audio of the master track. An "export bounced audio to sound file" command is also available in the bounce submenu of each individual track.

# Added "move bounced audio to new track" command to the bounce menu. Removed the now redundant "hide bounce track lane" option.

# Reorganized the layout of the fader, meter and bounce track submenus.

# Removed the MIDI and bounce settings from the effect track properties dialog. The bounce settings are now exclusively managed with the track bounce submenu.

# Added "adjust tempo and stretch to align bar at cursor" command to the tempo lane right-click menu. This is useful if you have recorded a midi performance that has dynamic tempo changes. You can then use this command to edit tempo events and align the grid to your performance while keeping the original timing of the performance. The command complements the old "adjust tempo to align bar at cursor" command which is used for aligning the grid to an audio recording with dynamic tempo changes.

# Added marker region to all the sound editor profiles in the default setup.

# The sound editor now supports the Alt+M shortcut for inserting a marker at the cursor. The Q/W shortcuts will step between markers in the sound, in addition to the markers in the arrangement. When a marker is selected the cursor left/right keys can be used to select the previous or next marker.

# Updated the edit menu in the sound editor. The "select all" and "select all from cursor" commands will now select an audio segment instead of markers.

# Added "fade-in" and "fade-out" edit commands to the sound editor.

# Renamed the "clone phantom sequence" and "crop unique sequence" edit commands to "clone" and "crop". Added "clone and crop" command which will do both actions in one step.

# Moved the color picker from the track panel to the top of the inspector. Right-clicking the color picker shows a menu with "enable track color", "copy color" and "paste color". Added popup-help to the color picker.

# Removed the now redundant "enable track color" command from the track menu. Also removed the color option from the effect and parameter track dialogs.

# Updated the button layout in the piano roll, velocity and curve regions, to match the recent updates to the toolbar layout.

# Speed optimized the UI switching of editor profiles.

# Pressing the 1-9 numeric keys switches between editor profiles.

# Pressing F6 toggles the browser page.

# Pressing F7/F8 restores/minimizes the first and second resizable region in the editor. This includes the embedded editor and the mixer.

# The browser page can be activated by pressing the Tab key to rotate key focus between open panels.

# List boxes in the browser and the project start page are framed when they have key focus.

# Improved compatibility of MIDI file import.

# Updated the "Getting Started" chapter in the Podium guide.

# Fix: VST effects are no longer reset with "all notes off" MIDI messages. This avoids crashes occurring with IK Multimedia effect plugins.

# Fix: Popup help would sometimes remain open when switching editor profiles.
Podium v 2.20 Aug 17, 2009 Windows
# The default setup includes a new set of arrangement editors: "Tracks", "Editor", "Mixer", "Big Transport". Switching between the profiles can be done with the new editor profile bar located above the transport. Use the "load default setup" setup menu command to get the new default layout.

# The embedded editor view menu now includes editor profiles that have a timeline ruler. Selecting a profile with its own timeline ruler will detach the timeline zooming from the arrangement editor. The embedded editor remembers if the last selected profile had its own timeline.

# Added "editor profile bar" element to the toolbar properties dialog. A toolbar that includes this element will show a row of buttons with the names of all compatible editors. Clicking an editor button will switch to that editor. Right-clicking a button shows a menu with "Customize", "Duplicate", "Delete", "Move Left" and "Move Right" commands.

# Each MIDI and audio input can be assigned to multiple tracks by dragging the input object and holding the control key when dropping on a track. It can also be copied by using the new "Assign/Copy To Track" popup menu command in the inspector input list.

# The "auto-assign to focus track" option is added to the track/input submenu. Previously it was only available in the track inspector.

# When a track has an auto-assigned input, the input is shown on the track header. Previously auto-assigned mappings were only shown in the track inspector and the mixer.

# New arrangements will by default have the "auto-assign to focus track" option enabled for the first MIDI input.

# The device, preset, param and input popup menus in the mixer are now identical to the corresponding submenus in the track menu.

# Removed the "track layout mode" combobox setting from the arrangement properties. Tracks are now always shown using the compact mode.

# Removed the "set up audio input and VSTi" option from the new arrangement dialog.

# Added "create project template" and "create arrangement" options to the project start page. Enabling arrangement creation will no longer pop up the new arrangement dialog, but instead use default settings and go directly to the arrangement editor.

# Selecting the "Microsoft GS" synthesizer in the MIDI input interfaces setup will pop up a warning about the potential conflict with the ASIO driver.

# Removed the "editor type" setting from the Editor Profile Properties dialog. The editor type is now automatically determined from the regions that are included in the profile.

# The Editor Profiles dialog shows editor type info in the listbox.

# Added "texture image" fill type to the space region and modified the appearance of the "recess" fill type.

# Added "Browse Podium Video Tutorials" command to the Help menu. This will open the new ZynewaveDotCom channel on YouTube.

# Fix: Drag and drop of a device mapping on a track now checks if the mapping is already assigned in the track effect chain. This eliminates the problem where accidentally dragging an effect mapping in the track header would create a duplicate instance.

# Fix: Switching editor profiles could cause some key shortcuts to be disabled.
Podium v 2.18 Jul 9, 2009 Windows
# Redesigned the save progress dialog that appears when saving project and sound files. The progress bar indicates the total save progress of all files. Number of saved files is displayed at the bottom info line. The dialog has an Abort button.

# Speed optimized load times of large multichannel sound files.

# Podium is now built using the latest Microsoft VS v9 C++ compiler. All previous Podium releases were built using the trusty but aging VS v6. The new build should result in overall speed improvements.

# Fix: The Podium generic plugin editor did not update the parameter value display when the parameter was changed through MIDI control changes.

# Fix: The MIDI interface initialization could on rare occasions crash on startup.
